Cupping therapy or in arabic known as "Al-Hijamah" refers to the traditional medicine practice of wet cupping, or bloodletting with the aid of suction cups. In Malay, this practice is called "Bekam".
Rasullullah saw said "Jibrail alaisalam repeatedly emphasized upon me to resort to cupping to the extent that I feared that cupping will be made compulsory." - Jamul' Warsaii p. 179
Rasullullah saw praised a person who performs cupping, saying it removes blood, lightens the back and sharpens the eyesight.
The above quoted al-Hadith are clear that cupping was practised by Rasullullah saw himself and strongly recommended by him.
